Please join the RMA New York Chapter on Thursday, December 5, 2024, for a discussion on global macro economics and geopolitics. We will be hosting a networking reception at 5:15pm and the panel discussion will begin at 6:15pm. Topics may include:

  • Prospects of the U.S. and global economy in 2025 and beyond, and potential implications of the U.S. elections.
  • Development of current geopolitical flashpoints, along with direct and second-third-order effects of any geopolitical crisis.
  • The future of capital flows and supply chains against a deglobalization backdrop. 

 

Speakers:

Francisco Mejia, Managing Director, Global Head of Sovereign and Economic Risk, Goldman Sachs

Francisco is global head of Sovereign and Economic Risk for Enterprise Risk Management in the Risk Division. He moved to Dallas in 2021 and previously held roles in Sovereign Risk in both London and Hong Kong. Francisco joined Goldman Sachs in 2007 as an analyst on the Sovereign Risk team within Credit Risk Management in New York and was named managing director in 2021.

Prior to joining the firm, Francisco worked as an economist at the National Association of Financial Institutions in Bogotá, Colombia.

Francisco earned a BA in Economics, a BA in Philosophy and an MA in Economics from the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, in 2002. He also earned a MA in Economics from New York University in 2006. 

 

Paul Gruenwald, Global Chief Economist, S&P Global Ratings

Paul Gruenwald is the Global Chief Economist at S&P Global Ratings based in New York. He leads the economic research agenda and serves as the primary spokesperson on macro-economic matters for the company.

Before joining S&P Global Ratings in 2013, Paul spent almost five years at the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) as the Asia Pacific Chief Economist, where he was responsible for helping set and direct ANZ’s Asian and global economic research agenda, as well as building the bank’s economic research efforts and profile in the region. Previously, Paul worked at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for nearly 16 years, where he led the team producing the IMF’s Asian regional outlook reports. He was also the IMF Resident Representative to Hong Kong and Korea, the Deputy Chief of the China Division, and did considerable work on both public (Paris Club) and private (London Club) debt restructuring issues.

Paul has a Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in Economics/Mathematics from the University of Texas.

 

Lawrence Goodman, Founder and President, Center for Financial Stability (CFS)

Lawrence Goodman is founder and president of the Center for Financial Stability – a nonpartisan think tank with business lines spanning the future of finance, data and analytics, policy, and technology. He is an economist with expertise in global macro investment strategies and sovereign debt restructuring. He has established a consistent track record of successfully predicting meaningful financial market movements and crises. He has advised hedge funds and governments and led research teams on Wall Street and at the U.S. Treasury. At Treasury, he co-founded and chaired an interagency working group of 13 agencies that advised principals on future financial vulnerabilities and risks.

Mr. Goodman is a member of the Financial Research Advisory Committee at the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Financial Research.  He serves as Chairman of the Board of The First Alliance Foundation and a member of the Advisory Board of the Penn Institute for Economic Research. Previously, he served as a member of the Export-Import Bank of the United States’ Advisory Committee, the Executive Committee for the Global Equity Group at Santander Investment, and the Board of the Emerging Market Traders Association.

 

Moderator:

Celeste Tambaro, Managing Director, Global Markets, Eurasia Group

Celeste is the managing director of the firm's Financial Institutions practice. She joins Eurasia Group from Westwood Global Investments, where she led business development and client service efforts. In that role, she engaged with many of the leading institutional asset allocators in the US, including endowments and foundations, public and corporate pension funds, and family offices. Previously, Celeste was a managing director and head of Goldman Sachs's global Latin American Equity distribution business. Earlier in her career, she directed emerging markets institutional sales teams at Bear Stearns and Robert Fleming, building on her experience as an analyst covering emerging markets equities.

Celeste is currently a board member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Lincoln and Weston, MA, and a mentor for American Corporate Partners, a nonprofit organization that guides veterans and their partners in the transition to the civilian workforce. She holds a bachelor's degree in economics and Spanish literature from Cornell University and a Master of Business Administration in Finance and International Business from NYU's Stern School of Business. Celeste resides in Weston, MA, with her husband and two sons.
